Why not try growing a tree peony in a container. Tree peony(moutan) can grow up to six feet in height so make sure your container is large enough and heavy enough to provide a good stable home for the plant. Be sure to protect young shoots and buds from late frosts and never allow the root ball to completely dry out. They will also need plenty of supports to take the weight of the flowers which can be quite heavy. The growing medium needs to be rich in humus and nutrients and well drained.

If you have space for a water butt to collect the rainwater, it is well worth the modest cash outlay to be sure of the waters softness and purity and that it is at the correct temperature to avoid sudden shocks to the plant caused by applying water that is not at ambient temperature.
